The vision of Materock is to help build a future for the people of Tohoku whose lives have been adversely impacted by the devastating earthquake and tsunami. By helping the children of Tohoku we can contribute to the future of the region. Our aim is to provide opportunities for the children of Tohoku to study overseas to gain skills and confidence to improve their lives and realize their dreams.
The Rotary Clubs of the Tohoku region are the Charity Partner for Materock. Rotary clubs are service organizations that strive to improve the quality of life in their communities, promote high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace. There are over 33,000 Rotary clubs in the world. Club members, called Rotarians, are business, professional, and community leaders who volunteer their time and talents to serve others. Rotary Youth Exchange is one of their service activities.
The Rotary Youth Exchange program provides students aged between 15 and 19 years with an opportunity to study overseas for a period of 3 to 12 months. The Tohoku Rotary Clubs have been sending children to study overseas for many years and have the experience and infrastructure to administer this important program.
The proceeds from materock will go directly to the Rotary Clubs of Tohoku to be used in the Rotary Youth Exchange program. It is our goal to give as many children affected by the disaster an opportunity to broaden their horizons and improve their lives through the experience of studying overseas.
As the major sponsor of Materock the Phoenix Hotel Hakuba has generously donated the cost of the artists and transport to Japan.
Please join us on September 10 at this exciting event and give generously to this important cause.
